Bathurst

Bathurst is two and a half to three hours west from Sydney.  We're approximately a 100 bed facility,  we see about 26 000 emergency department admissions per year. We have a number of facilities including a level 4 intensive care unit medical surgical and rehab units we have a paediatric unit as well we have number of primary community and allied health services.  We have mental health services on site plus drug and alcohol.

I love Bathurst, I love the size of the facility. It's a really friendly place to work. I have worked in tertiary hospitals and even smaller facilities way out west but Bathurst is a great size for education, for progressing your career and it's a really lovely place to work, really friendly and we've got some fantastic staff at the facility.

I work with a fantastic department,  my manager is the best. I've worked in a huge amount of places, I've worked in london for four and a half years,  heaps of places in Sydney. My manager here, Linda is the best I've ever had,  someone who's so just welcoming and wonderful and just supportive as a manager - that is one of the greatest things ever. It's been fantastic for career advancement for me I've had such great support moving here with a mentor as well as having the support from my managers to take time off and further my career through a master's degree at the University of Technology.

With Bathurst health service we have a really supportive management team and Kathy Marshall is very supportive of what we do in here and that we have really good client and patient uptake from our clinic and we have a lot of good positive feedback and with management wise is that they're always available for us, to have a chat too.

But also the patients I really like,  just the country folk you know, like being a country girl myself originally, it's just really nice to be able to work with people that are just genuine and everyone just wanting to help out and just be really caring and it's a friendly warm environment.  I love it, yeah, just working as a team and seeing the kids leave the ward healthy it's just a satisfying feeling and it is an amazing place to live.

The climate is fantastic you get four seasons in the year. I have three sons and the education here is absolutely fantastic.  There's amazing netball,  hockey, rugby league, rugby union, AFL - I think it's a fantastic sporting town so the opportunities here for kids are amazing

Bathurst - well can i say the coffee - I'm a coffee addict - I love coffee and i always drink every day I go to my coffee shop and the one thing I think that everybody says about Bathurst - it's friendly and it's it's a very friendly society. Everybody embraces everyone and it's just a really nice place to live.

Absolutely cost of living and i think also quality of life here in Bathurst is fantastic. I was lucky enough to purchase my own home, six months after moving here to Bathurst which is something i definitely wouldn't have been able to achieve after living in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney for 10 years.

It is such a nice town to live, no traffic congestion, beautiful life, many affordable, big houses which you could only dream living in a metropolitan area and not only me, my family is pretty happy many school's around. You go from point A to point B five minutes, maximum seven minutes. You're at hospital within five minutes, even if  there's an emergency.  Getting back that time that precious time that you can spend with family or friends or just at home doing the things that you love - going to the gym, walking your dogs, those sorts of things.

I think that's yeah, it's fantastic -  you can't compare you know, we have flexible rostering so it is a great work-life balance. Beautiful fresh air here, you get down Mount Victoria,  your fingers release and you know that you know you're heading home to Bathurst and you're out of the city and it's really relaxing, it's really good for your mental health and it's just a great place to live and work.

I do love, what I do really enjoy working in this space, I enjoy our clients. I enjoy the Aboriginal community and i enjoy the team we have - we're just really passionate about what we do.

You are working stress-free the staff here in Bathurst is lovely, it is not only me every doctor who's come and worked here once, wants to come back again and again, that's the amount of lovely stuff we have that is stress free working. Good colleagues, physicians and surgeons and the time you finish your work five minutes you're back at home and then you have a lot of quality time with your family so overall it's a lovely life, lovely work and lovely colleagues here so i would probably say 10 out of 10 in all aspects working in Bathurst hospital
