Cobar Health Service - a great place to work
Cobar Health Service’s $30M upgrade was completed in 2020, encompassing Cobar Health Service, brand new staff accommodation and the Liliane Brady aged care village.
Cobar Health Service houses 10 acute/subacute beds, 24 hour emergency care; rehabilitation, respite and palliative care, renal dialysis a range of primary, community and child and family health services. Cobar Health Service also provides RVAC (Rural Virtual Assisted Chemotherapy), HiTH (Hospital in the Home), has an occupational therapist on staff, provides cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation and virtual physiotherapy clinics for outpatients.
Specialist medical and allied health services visit as part of an outreach service from Dubbo and Orange.
Cobar’s nurses are highly trained and have the highest number of FLECC (First Line Emergency Care) RN’s in the district, with 90% of RN’s holding this qualification.
Cobar has a supportive management team who mentor and empower new staff to strive for excellence and provide a supportive pathway to further education in rural generalist and emergency nursing.

Cobar - a great place to live
Cobar Shire covers an area of 45,609 square kilometres, approximately two-thirds the size of Tasmania. It is home to approximately 4,647 people.
The Shire's prosperity is built around the thriving mining - copper, lead, silver, zinc, gold - and farming industries, which are strongly supported by a wide range of attractions and activities that make it a major tourist destination.
Cobar is friendly and welcoming and offers a range of cultural and sporting activities for residents. The town boasts excellent sporting facilities including a magnificent 18-hole sand green golf course, two bowling clubs, beautifully maintained fields, modern Olympic swimming pool complex including heated rehabilitation pool and water slide, barbecue and beach volleyball facilities.
Cobar has a skate park suitable to all skill levels and bikes, boards and scooters and is adjacent to the Cobar Youth and Fitness Centre. The centre has squash courts, gym, sauna, basketball stadium, dance area and drop in centre. Junior clubs are very strong in the town, particularly for Little Athletics, soccer, cricket, football, netball and dance and martial arts. There are shooting ranges, walking paths, and large common areas for groups such as the Fergie Tractor group, the Auto club and the Fuel Burners car group.
There are regular market days in town and the Arts Council supports a strong cultural element in the community which includes an annual Art and Photography Exhibition. There is a range of cuisines, from Thai to Italian, Chinese and Australian, as well as takeaway options. Venues are all family-friendly with a relaxed atmosphere.

Cobar has a wide range of services which makes it a great place to live.
There is a number of education providers in Cobar ranging from early childhood to further education for adults. St John’s Catholic Primary School is run through Catholic Education while the Cobar Public School and Cobar High School offer government education. There are many options for parents of young children including the Far West Family Day Care, Kubby House Child Care Centre, Cobar Preschool and Ngalli Preschool. After-school care is available through Cobar Outside of School Hours (COOSH) and the local TAFE campus offers a range of subjects.

Getting here and getting away
The road journey time between Sydney and Cobar is around 11 hours and covers a distance of around 759 km.
NSW TrainLink regional coach services run between Dubbo and Broken Hill, via Nyngan and Cobar daily.
There are five direct flights a week to Sydney return.
