Self-Harm and Suicide Prevention Procedure (Community) | Use this procedure when working with a young person who is at risk of self-harming or suicide, has harmed themselves, attempted suicide or following the death of a young person by suicide. |

Custodial procedures

Centre Routine Procedure | Use this procedure to assist development, implementation and review of routines for detainees/ staff in a centre. This includes general centre routines and unit/ program specific routines. |
Centre Telephone System Procedure | The purpose of this procedure is to provide steps for effectively managing and using the Detainee Telephone System at a Youth Justice NSW Centre for the purpose of providing young people with contact with family, significant others and external stakeholders. |
Chaplaincy Procedure | This procedure explains the processes relating to the role of the Chaplain within a Juvenile Justice Centre, employee referrals and links to Centre employees. |
Contraband Procedure | The purpose of this procedure is to provide steps for employees when they locate contraband during a search or in a Juvenile Justice Centre. |
Detainee Risk Management Plan Procedure | The purpose of this procedure is to provide steps for developing, implementing and reviewing a Detainee Risk Management Plan. |
Exhibits Procedure | Use this procedure to manage items of contraband that will be required to be provided to NSW Police for either evidential or disposal purposes in a criminal investigation. |
Facilitation Contact with Family and Significant Others Procedure | Use this procedure to manage contacts when family or significant others request contact with a detainee, the detainee requests contact with family or significant others, supporting or not supporting a person having contact with a detainee. |
Gatekeeper and Night State Procedure | Use this procedure to safeguard the entry and exit of approved Youth Justice NSW employees and visitors to all Youth Justice Centres at all times. |

Misbehaviour Procedure | Use this procedure when conducting an inquiry into an alleged misbehaviour and determining the need to issue a consequence to a young person in custody. |
Objective Classification System Procedure | This procedure is used to implement, monitor and assess the classification level of a young person, for the duration of their detention in a Youth Justice Centre. |
Perimeter Security Procedure | Use this procedure when conducting internal and external perimeter security searches for Youth Justice NSW Centres. |
Personal Property Young People Procedure | Use this procedure for the management of a young persons' personal property at admission, during custody, at transfer and at discharge. |
Provision of non-fixed items to young people in segregation and confinement procedure | This procedure is to be used to risk assess the provision of a mattress and other non-fixed items to a young person when they have been placed in a room for a period of confinement or segregation. |
Referral to the Waratah Program Procedure | Use this procedure when considering the eligibility and suitability of detainees for participation in the Waratah Program. |
Request for Personal Time Procedure | Use this procedure when a detainee asks to spend time in their room outside routine room times (eg. bed time). |
Risk Assessment Procedure | This procedure identifies how risks are to be assessed in a Youth Justice Centre and the role staff will take in assessing and mitigating risk. |
Room Sharing Risk Assessment Procedure | This procedure is used to determine the risks involved when a young person is considered for a room sharing arrangement. |
Searching Accommodation Rooms. Units and Other Areas Procedure | The purpose of this procedure is to provide employees with instructions for conducting safe room area searches and room fixture/fittings audits within a Youth Justice Centre. |
Searching Employees Procedure | Use this procedure when searching an employee as part of routine and after receiving proficient intelligence and/or compelling circumstantial evidence that an employee may be involved in trafficking contraband or removing property from a centre without authorisation. |
Searching Young People Procedure | Use this procedure to identify the need to conduct or approve a search on young people within a Youth Justice NSW centre or court facility. |
Section 24(1)(c) Conditional Discharge Procedure | Use this procedure to provide an understanding of processes regarding section 24(1)(c) conditional discharge. This section allows eligible and suitably assessed detainees to be released before their control order expires. |
Segregation Procedure | Use this procedure when a young person poses an immediate risk of danger to themself or others. Segregation is for the safety and protection of young people and employees. |
Self-Harm and Suicide Prevention Procedure (Custody) | Use this procedure when working with a young person in custody who is at risk of self-harming or suicide, has harmed themselves, attempted suicide or following the death of a young person by suicide. |
Separation Procedure | This procedure is used when a young person or a group of young people need to be separated from the general population in a Youth Justice Centre. |
Serious Young Offender Review Panel (SYORP) Procedure | Use this procedure when considering reclassification, supervised outings or day/overnight leave for a young person who has been charged with, or found guilty of, one or more Serious Children's Indictable Offences under Crimes Act 1900. |
Supervision of Young People Procedure | Use this procedure to understand employee roles and responsibilities for the supervision of young people at all times. |
Termination of Visits - Restrictions and Banning of Visitors | Use this procedure to manage risks to the safety and security of the centre, or the health and wellbeing of a young person by visitors. |
Time and Attendance-Operational Employees | Use this procedure when recording, verifying, checking and monitoring the daily attendance of operational employees, and when notifying and recording unplanned absences. |
Transfer to Adult Corrections Procedure | This procedure discusses the criteria for determining the suitability of the transfer of young people from Youth Justice Centres to adult correctional centres. |
Transfer to Forensic Hospital Procedure | This procedure is used when a young person has been assessed under section 55 of the Mental Health (Forensic Provisions) Act 1990 and needs to be transferred from a Youth Justice Centre to a forensic hospital. |
Travelling and Accommodation Assistance for Carers of Young People Procedure | This procedure documents assessment guidelines for financial assistance for carers of young people in Youth Justice Centres. |
Urinalysis Program (Young People) Procedure | This procedure discusses the Urinalysis Porgram for young people in custody. |
Use of Force Procedure | Use this procedure when all other forms of intervention have been unsuccessful or are not appropriate, and it is both reasonable and necessary to use force in order to resolve a situation within a Youth Justice NSW Centre. |
Use of Instruments of Restraint Procedure | Use this procedure when instruments of restraint are risk assessed as necessary for the safe and effective management of a young person. |
Use of Protective Equipment Procedure | Use this procedure when an authorised officer has approved the use of protective equipment in a planned use of force. |
Victims Register Procedure | Use this procedure when communicating with a victim or between the Victims Register Officer and Centre Manager regarding a young person who has a Registered Victim. |
Visit by Community Group or Representative Procedure | This procedure is to be used when organising the approval of, and facilitating visits by, community groups or individual community representatives. |
Visits by Contractors Procedure | Use this procedure when a contractor visits a Youth Justice Centre to carry out minor works or improvements and /or emergency repairs which could include electrical repairs and installation, plumbing repairs, or maintenance to fittings and fixtures. |
Visits by Family and Significant Others Procedure | Use this procedure when an approved family member or significant other visits a young person in a Youth Justice Centre, as soon as practicable following initial admission, during the centre's scheduled visiting times, and at other agreed times with prior approval (special visits). |
