Certain information is required by law to be available on the Youth Justice website, free of charge. This is called open access information. If you cannot find the information you are looking for on this website, you can ask whether the information has already been released by Youth Justice NSW by contacting the team.

Youth Justice publishes a large volume of material on this website. We try to release as much government information as possible, either through our website or in another appropriate way, and free of charge or at the lowest reasonable cost.

Privacy and Personal Information
Youth Justice collects and uses the personal and health information of young people under its care as well as the personal information of their family, friends and other third parties. Youth Justice recognises the privacy of the young people it supervises and supports, as well as the importance of collaborating with other agencies to provide effective services for the safety, welfare and wellbeing of young people and others.
The Youth Justice Privacy Personal Information Policy provides direction to Youth Justice employees with respect to the collection, use, security, storage, disclosure and sharing of personal information of young people. In addition, the Policy sets out the permissible exemptions from privacy legislation in relation to disclosing or sharing personal information with agencies external to Youth Justice. The Policy also provides direction for responding to requests for personal information in a timely, transparent and consistent way.
How to make an application for information
Members of the public may access information held by the Government under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) and, where an applicant is requesting their own personal information, the Privacy and Personal Information Act 1998.
Youth Justice is a division of the Department of Communities and Justice. The Open Government, Information and Privacy unit (OGIP) administers both the GIPA Act and privacy legislation on behalf of Youth Justice.
