All staff who have contact with clients and their families with English language difficulties and or a disability are responsible for informing them of interpreter, translation and transcription services, and disability support providers.
The Youth Justice Language and Communication Policy:
- ensures that staff who deal directly with clients have the cultural awareness and the skills to determine clients’ need for an interpreter, translator or disability support person
- establishes protocols for engaging accredited interpreters, translators or disability support persons
- ensures that staff have the skills to work effectively with professional interpreters and translators.
