If you’re named on a fine or overdue notice, you can view the digital image of your offence online taken by a speed, red-light, bus lane or mobile phone/seatbelt camera.
Some online services will be unavailable on Tuesday morning.

You can ask for a copy of the image to be sent to you by calling us on 1300 138 118.
You must be the person named on the fine notice and you’ll need to provide some proof of identification such as your address, date of birth or driver’s licence number.

What information is captured
Cameras are designed to capture the following information about the vehicle and offence:
- the vehicle’s model
- number plate
- speed
- the lane the vehicle is in
- image of the driver for mobile phone offences
- image of the driver and front seat passengers for seatbelt offences.

Types of road safety cameras and speed cameras
There are several types of cameras that may capture a speeding offence. If an offence is detected, a digital image of the vehicle is recorded. Find out how the different cameras work:
| Camera type | How it works |
|---|---|
| Fixed speed camera | Fixed speed cameras are used in high-risk locations such as tunnels or in areas with a history of severe crashes. They are also used in school zones. They detect the speed of a vehicle by using approved electronic sensors embedded in the road surface. |
| Mobile speed camera | Mobile speed cameras work like fixed speed cameras, however they are moved to different locations in a vehicle. |
| Red-light speed camera | Red-light speed cameras deter crashes occurring at intersections, which are often more severe for divers, passengers and pedestrians. They detect the speed of vehicles by using detectors embedded into the road surface or radar technology. They also detect vehicles travelling over the stop line or entering the intersection after the light has turned red. |
| Mobile phone and seatbelt detection cameras | Mobile phone and seatbelt detection cameras detect illegal mobile phone use, and drivers and passengers not wearing a seatbelt or wearing a seatbelt incorrectly. The camera system has a number of cameras and an infra-red flash to capture clear images of passing vehicles. There are both fixed and transportable versions of the camera technology. |
| Safe-T-Cams | Safe-T-Cams monitor heavy vehicle fatigue, registration and safety station entry. |
| T-way lane cameras | T-way lanes are installed beside the lane and record three images of any unauthorised vehicle using a T-way lane. |
| Bus lane camera | Bus lane cameras detect unauthorised vehicles in a bus zone, by using two cameras to read number plates. |
