Visit the Western Plains Cultural Centre at the very heart of Dubbo. The Centre is located next door to Victoria Park and includes a gallery, museum and community art centre.
This is a place where you can enjoy cutting-edge exhibitions, events, and programs and connect with and reflect on the community and culture of Central West NSW.
The Centre includes the Dubbo Regional Gallery, an exciting versatile space hosting a range of exhibitions throughout the year.
You’ll see that the gallery’s permanent collection focuses on the ‘Animal in Art’ theme, with a collection of works across a broad range of media and styles by some of Australia’s best contemporary artists.
The original Dubbo High School hall was established in 1917 and is now home to the Dubbo Regional Museum. Alongside a space for touring and local exhibitions focusing on local history and connections to the community, you’ll also find a permanent space dedicated to the story of Dubbo. People, Places, Possessions: Dubbo Stories is dedicated to telling the history of Dubbo through the people that have lived there. You can view a photographic streetscape and a treasure trove of items from past eras that share local stories of hardship, perseverance, ingenuity, tragedy and joy.
The Museum is also home to the 1950s Classroom, a former classroom belonging to Dubbo High School. It is an interactive exhibit offering you a truly unique visitor experience.
The Community Arts Centre is a space for cultural interest groups and educational opportunities, with versatile indoor and outdoor spaces where locals and visitors can engage in cultural activities. The centre also contains a café, newly refurbished conference rooms, a boardroom, an auditorium, a theatrette, foyer spaces and outdoor areas available for hire.
Opened in 2007, the Western Plains Cultural Centre is managed by Dubbo Regional Council. It’s a place for community connection and creative engagement that preserves and promotes the region’s identity.
Stop by and enjoy stimulating, inspiring and enriching exhibitions, programs and events.
