Working during and after pregnancy
When working during and after your pregnancy, there are things you should know about your workplace rights, types of leave and flexible work arrangements.
During pregnancy
Most people will be able to work normally during their pregnancy. Others may need to make adjustments at work depending on:
- any health concerns or illness
- the type of work they do.
During your pregnancy, it’s important to:
- understand your rights and responsibilities in the workplace while pregnant
- be aware of your safety at work and your safe job options
- know the types of leave you can take.
After pregnancy
After you’ve had your baby, you may take time off work. Before you return, it can help to:
- plan it in advance, to make the transition for you and your family easier
- understand your rights and responsibilities in the workplace once you've had a baby
- be aware of your flexible work arrangement options
- know what to do if you’re getting Parental Leave Pay.
Support at work
At any stage during or after your pregnancy, you may need support at work. This could be:
- from your workplace
- information and help from outside your workplace when dealing with a work dispute.
