Commercial agents act on behalf of a client to collect debts, repossess goods and serve legal documents (known as process serving) to others.

In NSW, only commercial agents who have face-to-face contact with customers (field agents) and employers of field agents need to hold a licence. All commercial agents – whether field agents or not – must comply with the commercial agent rules. Private inquiry agents are regulated by NSW Police.

Notify the regulator
Interstate commercial agents are required to notify the regulator, NSW Fair Trading, of their intention to work in NSW under AMR.

You can update your notification details or complete the outstanding actions on your notification. Outstanding actions are where you have been asked to clarify information provided in your notification.
