Inclusive employment
The department has a range of inclusive employment initiatives in place to create a workplace which encourages the recruitment of people with disabilities and creates a culture where everyone thrives.
Removing barriers
Enabling accessibility for all is a priority to the department. The organisation has re-designed its recruitment and HR processes to ensure its job application and onboarding processes are supportive and straightforward. Adjustments can be made throughout the recruitment process to meet the needs of candidates. Recruiters and hiring managers are trained in disability awareness to ensure the department supports people with a disability in their career.
Workplace Adjustments
Workplace adjustments to help staff perform at their best will be organised by hiring managers. Adjustments may include physical work environment modifications, alternative communication methods, specialised training, flexible work arrangements, role modifications and the provision of equipment.
Disability Employee Network
The department’s Disability Employee Network meets regularly to discuss ideas and develop strategies about disability-related initiatives. This proactive forum supports positive change within the department, offers professional and personal development, and gives members the opportunity to make the organisation more diverse and inclusive.
Flexibility
The department’s ‘Where, When and How We Work’ program provides a framework and resources for leaders and employees to discuss and implement flexible working practices which work for the business, team and individual. The organisation’s commitment to flexibility enables all staff to manage their work and life commitments.
Disability Talent Pools
To match people with a disability to jobs all over NSW, the department implements disability targeted talent pools. Candidate preferences, knowledge and skills are matched to vacancies, and hiring managers and teams are trained in disability awareness.
Aboriginal employment
The Department of Regional NSW is committed to embedding Aboriginal inclusion as part of core business, which enables each group in the organisation to deliver on the organisation’s inclusivity vision.
The department values a diverse workforce and wants to strengthen its representation of Aboriginal people. The department encourages, supports, and empowers its Aboriginal employees to build sustainable careers within the organisation, and implements a wide range of valuable jobs and tailored programs designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The department has dedicated Aboriginal Diversity and Inclusion Partners and recruiters who implement targeted recruitment strategies to address challenges faced by Indigenous Australians when securing employment.
