About the Standards
The Standards describe what teachers should know and be able to do at every stage of their career. Specifically, the knowledge, practice and professional engagement needed for high quality effective teaching that improves student learning outcomes.
The Standards use nationally agreed indicators of teacher quality to guide the preparation, support and development of teachers throughout their careers from Graduate to Proficient Teacher, to Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher.
The NSW teacher accreditation system, overseen by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), provides a rigorous assessment of evidence for teachers' achievement of the Standards.
