NSW Public Register of Teachers

About the Public Register

The Public Register is a requirement of the NSW Teacher Accreditation Act 2004. NESA published the Public Register of teachers on 30 June 2022.

The NSW Public Register lets you know that a teacher:

• is qualified
• meets national teaching standards
• has a current Working with Children Check
• regularly completes professional development.

If a teacher holds active accreditation in NSW the Public Register will display their:

• first name and surname
• NESA accreditation number
• type of accreditation, for example 'active'.

No additional information will be displayed.

Teachers not on the Public Register

Some individuals employed in NSW schools may not be required to be accredited because they are teaching courses not developed or endorsed by NESA (for example, religious or cultural studies). They will not appear on the Public Register if they are not accredited in NSW.

Teachers who are on a Leave of Absence or have been granted an exclusion by NESA will not appear.

Teachers who have had their accreditation suspended or revoked will:

• immediately be removed from the Public Register, and
• cannot be employed to teach in any registered school or approved centre-based early childhood service.

Public registers of personal information are governed by the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act). You can learn more about  how public registers work.

Remove your name from the Public Register

Your name can be removed from the Public Register if you can satisfy NESA that the safety or well-being of yourself or another person would be directly affected by your name remaining on the Register.

To request the removal of your name from the Public Register please complete this form. You will be advised of the outcome of your request in writing.
