What maintaining at a higher level means
As a Highly Accomplished or Lead Teacher you need to continue to:
- demonstrate exemplary teaching practice at or above the relevant level of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (the Standards)
- complete professional development
- model and lead innovative teaching and learning practices that relate to all applicable Standards
- engage in the delivery of NSW curriculum and assessment or the Early Years Learning Framework aligned with the Standards at the relevant level.
Non-school or service-based teachers
If you are in a non-school/service based role (including in a non-teaching role in a school or service), you may continue to maintain your HALT accreditation if your:
- role allows you to continue to demonstrate your practice at the relevant HALT level
- employer (or their delegate) can verify your practice during your maintenance period.
Length of an accreditation maintenance cycle
Your employment type determines how long you have to meet your maintenance requirements.
- Full-time: 5 years
- Casual or part-time: 7 years
If your employment status changes, you may be able to adjust your maintenance timeframe from 5 to 7 years. You will need to provide evidence of the change to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
