Interstate and New Zealand trained teachers
Apply for Mutual Recognition
Apply for mutual recognition if you have current full or provisional registration from another Australian state or territory, or from New Zealand.
Steps to apply
1. Prepare your documents
You’ll need the following documents to upload to your application:
- a copy of your interstate or New Zealand registration document confirming current full or provisional registration
- copies of 3 types of identification (commencement, primary and secondary)
- a completed and signed copy of the Authority to release information form if you are currently registered with the Queensland College of Teachers or the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia

2. Apply online
To apply for Mutual Recognition, you will need to create your NESA online account (eTAMS).
Follow the instructions on eTAMS on how to submit your documents and complete your application.
Accreditation fee exemptions
You may be exempt from the annual fee if you do not:
- live in NSW, and
- teach exclusively in NSW (for example you teach in multiple jurisdictions).
To apply for an exemption you must provide proof of your:
- ongoing full registration with an interstate teacher registration authority – for example a certified copy of your registration card
- employment as a teacher in a jurisdiction outside NSW – for example a statement of service
- interstate address – for example a certified copy of your driver’s licence or a utility bill
- receipt(s) issued by an interstate teacher registration authority for teacher registration fee(s).
