VET qualifications
This data reports on the number of students who gained a HSC VET qualification in 2023. View the number of students who gained a qualification by gender, location and socio-economic status.
VET in the HSC
Students can include Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses based on nationally recognised qualifications in their HSC pattern of study, receiving a Certificate or Statement of Attainment under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) in addition to their HSC.
Students may study more than one HSC VET course. Students receive recognition towards their HSC credential as well as a nationally recognised VET qualification.
VET must be delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). This could be Technical and Further Education (TAFE), a school system or sector authority, or other providers such as industry bodies.
VET is arranged in training packages that specify the knowledge and skills required to perform effectively in the workplace in different industries and describe the units of competency (core and elective) that must be achieved in order to receive the qualification. The qualifications range from Certificate level I through to Advanced Diplomas.
Most of the qualifications available for the HSC are at AQF level II or AQF level III. Students can achieve a full Certificate (Cert) or a Statement of Attainment (SoA) towards a Certificate.
About the statistics
The tables show the qualifications achieved by the students who completed one or more VET courses in Stage 6, delivered by the school system/sector authority and other RTOs and were awarded the 2023 Higher School Certificate.
Information about the qualifications delivered by TAFE NSW is not available for this report.
More information about eligibility for the HSC can be found in the data glossary.
This data is taken from 22 January 2024.
