Rating our performance

We actively measure and report on the environmental performance of the portfolio of buildings that we own to see how we can improve.

We do this to ensure our buildings run efficiently and sustainably, and so that the NSW Government agencies occupying these buildings have the work environment they need.

Each year, we take part in the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS). This involves reviewing our environmental performance in detail for areas such as energy, water, waste and indoor environment.

All our major commercial office buildings in both metropolitan and regional NSW (currently our 24 largest buildings) take part. The NABERS ‘star ratings’ results are reported publicly.

We also take part in the NABERS Sustainable Portfolios Index for Offices, a national index where property owners report on the portfolio-average performance of their buildings.

In 2024, we achieved the following NABERS Sustainable Portfolios Index results for our major buildings’ portfolio:

• 5.3 stars NABERS Energy – ranked fifth nationally
• 5.2 stars NABERS Water – ranked third nationally
• 3.4 stars NABERS Waste – ranked third nationally
• 4.2 stars NABERS Indoor Environment – ranked 14^th nationally.

In 2021, we became the first government agency in Australia to achieve a 5-star Green Star Performance rating for our portfolio of major commercial office buildings. We also achieved Carbon-Neutral certification from Climate Active, for the same portfolio of buildings rated under Green Star.
