Our services
Our Communicable Disease Control, Immunisation and Environmental Health teams work closely with GPs, hospitals, pathology labs, schools and childcare centres, local councils, aged care facilities, and with other government agencies to protect public health.
We provide advice and education, and enforce public health legislation such as the Public Health Act 2010, the Public Health (Tobacco) Act 2008 and the Smoke-free Environment Act 2000.
Contact the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD Public Health Unit or call 1300 066 055 to contact any public health unit in NSW.
Environmental Health
We monitor and respond to concerns about:
- air quality
- building and industrial hazards
- drinking water quality
- food safety
- public swimming pool and recreational water quality
- the funeral industry
- pollution incidents
- climate change and health
- tobacco and e-cigarette control
See NSW Health Environmental health for details on health risks and regulation, including fact sheets.
Food safety issues and food poisoning outbreaks are investigated jointly by our Public Health Unit and the NSW Food Authority, often in partnership with the local council.
Immunisation and vaccination
We provide education and support, to help maximise immunisation coverage rates for people of all ages and for all vaccines, especially among vulnerable communities.
Communicable and infectious diseases
We identify, monitor, investigate and control diseases that can be spread from person to person in our local communities.
