Our role
Our Communicable Disease team responds to reports from doctors, childcare centres, schools, hospitals and laboratories as well as the community about significant risks to public health.
We also provide information on public health aspects of infectious diseases, guidelines for exclusion from childcare, school or work and medications and treatments when necessary.
See the NSW Health website for details and reports on infectious diseases, as well as fact sheets and information about ways to prevent and control their spread.
Report communicable diseases
Anyone in the community can report their concerns about cases of communicable diseases to our Public Health Unit.
Notification of diseases allows us to work with other health workers to ensure appropriate public health measures are taken to prevent further spread of disease, and to identify the source.
Doctors, hospitals, schools and childcare centres are required to report certain communicable diseases to the Public Health Unit. See NSW Health infectious diseases for lists of notifiable diseases and notification forms.
