Surrender a licence or registration
You can surrender your building or trade licence or certificate or design and building practitioner registration at any time if you no longer have a need for it.
Surrendering building and trade licences and certificates
You can surrender your building and trade licence or certificate at any time by using the surrender of licence/certificate form.
Some licensees may be entitled to a partial refund for the unexpired portion of the fees paid for the licence.
You must attach a copy of the licence/certificate card with this fully completed form to submit in person at any Service NSW Centre. Visit the Service NSW website for the address of your nearest centre or telephone 13 32 20.
Surrendering a registration
If you are a design or building practitioner or a professional engineer, you can surrender your registration at any time by using the request for surrender application form.
Once you have completed and signed the form, it can be lodged with supporting documents by email to dbpregistration@customerservice.nsw.gov.au
You may be entitled to a partial refund of the fees paid if you hold a 3- or 5-year registration that has at least 1 year left (from the date of surrender to the date of expiry). If you are entitled to a refund, you will be required to complete a refund request form.
Once you have surrendered a registration it cannot be reinstated. If you wish to re-apply in the future, you will need to submit a new application with the required information and documentation.
