Appealing a housing decision – information for Aboriginal clients
The Housing Appeals Committee (HAC) encourages Aboriginal people to exercise their rights to appeal public and community housing decisions to make sure they are being treated fairly.
Information for Aboriginal clients
The Housing Appeals Committee (HAC) welcomes appeals from Aboriginal* people and families* living in Homes NSW, Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) and Community Housing properties as well as those who are applying to live in social housing.
You may be unhappy with a decision of a social housing provider. If this is the case you can generally appeal to the HAC unless the issue comes under the NSW Civil & Administrative Tribunal (NCAT).
It is your right as a tenant or applicant for public and community housing to appeal a decision that affects your housing, it is a good thing if people are using their appeal rights to help make sure decisions are correct and everyone gets fair treatment.
Sometimes Aboriginal people have said they do not feel confident about appealing a decision. We are very happy to help you with the process or refer you to specific Aboriginal organisations who can assist.
We also have dedicated Aboriginal Housing Appeals Committee Members who can hear your matter and bring cultural understanding to the process to ensure your voice is heard.
You can talk to us by phone, or you can email us.

Please Note: The Housing Appeals Committee does not deal with appeals about Land Council and Aboriginal Housing Corporation provided housing unless they are registered as Community Housing Providers. If you are not sure who your provider is, please contact us and we will be happy to help you find out if your Appeal can go forward.
