What retailers and traders need to know
Retailers and traders play a vital role in ensuring customers are equipped with essential safety information.
To comply with the new information standard, all suppliers of e-micromobility products must provide customers with clear and accurate safety information at the point of sale or supply. This includes details about safe use, charging, storage, fire prevention, and disposal of vehicles and their batteries.
Suppliers must also prominently display the following statement on their website and on or near their vehicles: 'Before using this vehicle, check the applicable local laws relating to your intended use of the vehicle on roads and road related areas.'
To help traders and suppliers understand and comply with the requirements of the information standard, we have created an example template with suggested wording. Suppliers may use their own layout and wording but must ensure they address all requirements of the information standard set out in the Regulation.

To improve consumer safety and reduce the risks associated with lithium-ion battery-powered e-micromobility vehicles, NSW Fair Trading has also introduced manufacturer standards that will ensure products meet strict safety and quality requirements under the Gas and Electricity (Consumer Safety) Act 2017. These standards address risks during design and manufacture.
