Far West LHD facilities and services
We provide a range of health services for children, young people and families, with a focus on prevention and early intervention.
Most of these are based in Broken Hill Community Health Centre.
The child and family health nursing service, based in the Broken Hill Community Health Centre, provides:
home visits for new babies
vaccinations and developmental health checks from birth to 4 years
breastfeeding support
parenting support, groups and drop-in clinics
StEPS vision screening in local preschools

We can arrange for a community nurse to visit your home and provide support including:
wound care
diabetes support
medication and injection administration
ostomy care.
The Broken Hill Community Health Centre can provide information and education, as well as:
- lead screening for children 0 to 5 years
- home assessments as required for children 0 to 4 years to help families to minimise their child’s blood lead level.

Clinic 9 Broken Hill Sexual Health Service provides a free and confidential sexual health and specialist HIV service.
Services available include screening, vaccination, treatment and management of Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs) including HIV, chlamydia, syphilis, gonorrhoea and hepatitis C.
The service also provides a needle and syringe service.
Open Monday to Friday 7:30am to 5:30pm.

Referrals can be emailed to fwlhd-sexualhealthclinic@health.nsw.gov.au.
Social workers are available through the Broken Hill Community Health Centre to provide counselling and support, information and referrals to housing, financial, legal and other service providers.
A child and family support worker can provide case management and coordinate services for vulnerable families.

Social workers are also available to support patients in Broken Hill Hospital and through the Dareton and Wentworth health services and Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol services.
The women’s health service is a free and confidential service that helps all women access health care and information to help them be as healthy as possible at every stage of life.

pregnancy choices and referral
contraception advice
infertility counselling
menopause information
