Report violence, abuse or neglect
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic and family violence, you can get help through the Domestic Violence Line.
Contact our Violence Abuse and Neglect Service at Broken Hill Community Health Centre on (08) 8080 1100 (8:30am to 5pm Monday to Friday).
You can call the 24-hour Sexual Assault On-Call Service on (08) 8080 1300 or attend the 24-hour emergency department at Broken Hill Hospital.
To report a physical or sexual assault to police, contact your nearest police station. Police are trained to support people who have experienced sexual assault or domestic and family violence.
To report suspected abuse, neglect or sexual assault involving a child, call the 24-hour Child Protection Helpline on 13 21 11.
Call the 24-hour NSW Domestic Violence Help Line on 1800 65 64 63 for information and support.
Violence Abuse and Neglect Services
All Far West LHD services strive to ensure culturally safe practices. We consult with Aboriginal designated staff and deliver services as close to home as possible.
Specialised counselling and support is available to people with experiences of violence, neglect and abuse anywhere across NSW, including throughout the Far West.
Our Violence Abuse and Neglect Services (VANS) include:
a 24-hour on-call service
crisis and ongoing counselling for sexual assault or domestic family violence
child protection counselling
medical examinations within 7 days of a sexual assault, including to support criminal proceedings
coordination of medical assessments
support and information for family members and carers
ongoing therapy for adults who have experienced sexual assault as children
therapy for children and young people aged 10 to 17 years (and their families and caregivers) who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviour.
We can also help with:
reporting to police and child protection agencies
understanding the legal process
court preparation and court support
victims compensation applications and Victim Impact Statements.
Safe Wayz
Safe Wayz is a program supporting children under 10 who have shown problematic or harmful sexual behaviours, including their families and carers.
