Get help with costs
Public education is free, but there are still various expenses associated with having a child in primary school. Learn what support is available.
While public education is free, most schools request voluntary contributions to help cover costs of:
- extracurricular activities
- additional education resources
- attending or participating in sporting events
- going on excursions.
You may also have to cover the cost of uniforms and school supplies.
Schools will usually provide a checklist of what they provide, and what parents or carers are expected to supply. If in doubt, get in touch with the school to find out.
You will not be discriminated against if you are unable to contribute financially to your child's education.
There are several options to get financial help to meet education costs, depending on your circumstances, including:
- government and NDIS support
- voucher type programs, like Active and Creative Kids
- student Opal cards and other public transport subsidies.
