Cancel your accreditation
You can apply to voluntarily cancel your accreditation if you no longer wish to teach in NSW. Find out how to cancel and what happens when you do.
Voluntary cancellation
If you no longer wish to teach in NSW you can apply to voluntarily cancel your accreditation.
If you wish to take a break of less than 5 years you should instead apply for a Leave of Absence.
If you are planning not to teach in a NSW school/service but wish to remain accredited, you can apply for Non-practicing accreditation.
What happens when you cancel
If you cancel your accreditation you can’t teach in any NSW:
- registered government or non-government school
- approved centre-based early childhood service.
If you have questions about voluntary cancellation of your accreditation contact the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
Re-accreditation after cancellation
Following voluntary cancellation, you may re-apply for accreditation at a later date. Depending on your accreditation level at the time of cancellation, and the period of time you have been away from the profession, conditions may apply.
If you apply for voluntary cancellation after your current maintenance period is due, you will not be eligible for re-accreditation at Proficient Teacher or immediate accreditation at Proficient Teacher.
