Results services for students
Learn more about the services NESA offers once you obtain your NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) results, such as results checks, mark reports and examination responses services.
HSC results
NSW HSC results are developed using fair, rigorous and publicly accountable processes. The integrity of HSC examinations and results is a prime concern for the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
Students receive their HSC results each December via email and text message and Students Online. When results are released, the following services will be available.
HSC results enquiry centre
You will be able to talk with experienced NESA staff about any concerns you have about your marks. You may want to ask specific questions, such as:
- All my school assessment marks were over 80, so why is my HSC assessment mark only 76?
- Why was my illness/misadventure application unsuccessful?
- I have an exam mark of 72 for Biology, why was I not placed in Band 4?
- If I was ranked first in my school, why are my exam and assessment marks different?
- My English marks are much lower than those in every other subject. Is there a mistake?
At peak times, you may experience a delay getting through to an operator. If you have forgotten your six-digit PIN, find out how to access your account and change your PIN.
Phone
Students can call 1300 13 83 23 after results are released to reach the enquiry centre.
Hours
NESA's phone service operates:
- from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday (except for public holidays)
- from 8.00 am on HSC results day.
NESA is closed on weekends and public holidays.
Results check, mark reports and examination responses services
You can order these services in the Results Services section of your Students Online account. Orders are delivered to your account within 20 working days.
For 2024 HSC students, these services are available from 19 December 2024 to 9 May 2025. Your Students Online account closes on 30 June 2025 so ensure you save/print your order before then.
These are fee-based services.
HSC results check
You may wish to order a results check if an examination mark is not consistent with your expectation. This service allows you to confirm your marks were processed correctly. It does not involve a re-mark of examination responses.
The HSC results check service verifies that:
- the NESA system has accurately captured the marker's intentions as recorded on the original source document
- the student did not make an attempt at any questions that are recorded as non-attempts
- where responses have been marked digitally onscreen, the student's whole response has been accurately scanned and indexed to the correct student, course and question
- the objective responses on the system match the student’s intentions as recorded on their multiple-choice answer sheet
- any other variations exist, such as a student attempting an incorrect combination of question options.
Cost
- $42.00 for English (Standard) and English (Advanced)
- $22.00 per course for all other courses.
HSC raw mark reports service
You can request a report of your raw examination marks for each course you studied. This service is not a re-mark of examination responses.
An HSC raw marks report lists the raw mark you were allocated for each examination question and your raw examination mark in a course.
The NESA marking process allocates raw marks for your exam responses and determines your raw examination mark. This raw mark is then aligned with the standards to determine the examination mark reported on your HSC Record of Achievement.
A Raw Marks Report includes a results check if you have not already ordered one.
Cost
$9.00 per course, plus the cost of a results check if you have not already ordered one.
HSC examination responses service
You can request a copy of your responses for each written HSC examination you undertook.
This service is not a re-mark of examination responses. Each response is a copy of what you wrote only and does not contain any marks allocated by the marker(s).
A request for examination responses includes a results check if this has not already been ordered.
The final date for requesting this service is 9 May 2025.
Cost
$45.00 per course, plus the cost of a results check if one has not already been ordered.
Services provided by other organisations
Technical and Further Education (TAFE) is the largest provider of vocational education and training in Australia. Many HSC courses give students credit towards TAFE credentials. This includes vocational education training (VET) courses and general courses such as Geography or Visual Arts.
Students may also study at TAFE before enrolling in university. Universities Australia has developed national credit transfer arrangements with participating universities. This arrangement recognises TAFE qualifications in 15 broad fields of study.
Smart and Skilled program – this NSW Department of Education program subsidises enrolment in VET.
It applies to:
- school leavers aged 15 years or older
- qualifications up to and including Cert III
- study at TAFE and other approved private or community training providers.
The Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) uses HSC results to calculate your Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATARs).
