Construction
Construction of the Stabling and Maintenance Facility is underway, having commenced in December 2021.
Construction began after the completion of works to address chemical contamination on the site, as a result of the land’s historical industrial use.
This work ensured the safety of workers, visitors and the community, and was completed in accordance with project and legislative requirements.
Sustainability
Transport for NSW has incorporated features into the facility’s planning and design to ensure sustainability.
Sustainable features include:
- Open roof design in main building for natural lighting.
- Solar panels - a 300kW photovoltaic array to be installed on the main building.
- LED lighting in external areas, including maintenance areas, car park, stabling area and yard.
- Rainwater storage tanks.
- Recycling of water used to wash light rail vehicles.
Future
The facility could potentially expand. It has been already planned and constructed with the potential to service light rail vehicles, staff and systems for Stage 2 of the Parramatta Light Rail.
