By building capacity, leadership and excellence across everything we do – from the research laboratory to the patient’s bedside – we strive to address the challenges of health service delivery in rural and remote settings, by developing and implementing innovative, context-appropriate solutions.

The Research Office is your first point of contact in Western NSW LHD for:
- guidance and engagement for any health-related research activity
- clinical trials
- health data requests.
External organisations or individuals wishing to collaborate with Western NSW LHD on research (including data sharing requests) must contact the Research Office on wnswlhd-ResearchOffice@health.nsw.gov.au.
Library network
Our library services support research in Western NSW LHD. We have 4 libraries that share a common catalogue, located at Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange and Broken Hill.

Greater Western Human Research Ethics Committee (GWHREC)
The Greater Western Human Research Ethics Committee operates in accordance with the National Health and Medical Research Council’s National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (PDF 671.81KB). It has been accredited by the NSW Ministry of Health as a lead committee to provide the single ethical and scientific review of research proposals within the NSW public health system. Our Research Strategy
The Western NSW LHD research strategy maps our vision to be an organisation that drives innovation and excellence to ensure healthier rural people and thriving communities.
The strategy complements a range of NSW Health initiatives and builds on their commitment to support high-quality research, evaluation and translation with the overarching aim of keeping people healthy.
Work is currently underway to finalise the next Western NSW LHD Research Strategy.
Western NSW Health Research Network (WHRN)
This partnership aims to drive innovation in health research across Western NSW.
WHRN is the peak body for health research in Western NSW and is a collaboration between our LHD and:
- 4 universities
- Western NSW Primary Health Network
- Hospitals
- Community managed organisations
- Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations.
