Our approach
Western NSW LHD is committed to increasing the scope and capacity of clinical trials across the region. This will not only improve access to world-class clinical health research closer to home for the people of Western NSW, but also ensure a thriving, research-proactive environment for our staff.
The development of a Clinical Trials Support Unit will continue to deliver increased opportunities for researchers, universities and collaborative groups to be involved with clinical trials, while also providing more opportunities for Central West and Far West patients to access trials.
With a range of clinical trials happening across various specialties (including cancer, haematology, cardiology, intensive care and paediatrics), some of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies now consider Western NSW LHD to be a destination of choice to conduct trials.
Clinical Trials Units
The Clinical Trials Unit in Orange hospital has developed rapidly and provides patients with access to some of the newest treatments without the need to travel long distances to metropolitan hospitals. The unit is run by a multidisciplinary specialist team that includes physicians, nurses, pharmacists, administration and a manager. The unit was the first to recruit a patient to a teletrial and now has links to stakeholders across several Local Health Districts.
