How you can support us
You can support Hunter New England LHD in many ways, including:
- fundraising for one of our hospitals or services
- fundraising for Hunter New England LHD in general
- donating items or funds to us directly.
Fundraising to help kids in hospital
Community support is vital in helping sick and injured children in John Hunter Children's Hospital. Your support allows us to use the best equipment in a caring and modern environment.
Every dollar donated helps us buy more life-saving equipment. Your donation might also help refurbish patient rooms or treatment spaces, making them feel more like home for our young patients.
How to organise a fundraiser
By fundraising for our children's health or other services, you'll join a passionate community of supporters working hard to change the future. Follow our guide to get started:
Plan your event
There are many options for your successful fundraising event. It could be anything from a fun run or walk to a morning tea, raffle, trivia night, movie night or charity gala ball.
Think carefully about how much you think your fundraising event can make and what you will need to do to achieve this goal. Considerations may include:
- Can you secure a venue to hold the event?
- How many tickets you will need to sell and at what cost?
- Will you require any sponsorship and if so how will this be achieved?
- Do you need to think about things in advance like raffle ticket, auction items, food and beverage sales?
- What will your expenses be?
- Will you meet the desired 60:40 cost of fundraising?
Timing
Try to pick a time which doesn’t conflict with other community events and allows you enough time to effectively plan your fundraising activity. You may also like to consider hosting your event at a time when community awareness is at a high, such as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September.
Budget
A budget is essential in ensuring your events success. Consider ways you can keep costs to a minimum and what services you might be able to get donated for free from local businesses.
Understand our fundraising guidelines
All staff and individual community members or groups fundraising for Hunter New England Health are bound by the HNELHD Fundraising, Donation and Sponsorship Guidelines (PDF 472.5KB). These guidelines also provide information about sponsorship.
Apply to fundraise
Fill out our online Application for authority to fundraise form.
Your fundraising application will then be assessed. If all the required information is contained in the application, you will be issued with a letter of authority within 10 business days.
Get a team together to help
Once your application is approved, it's time to get some help to put your plan into action.
Hosting a fundraising event can sometimes become a little overwhelming. Forming a small team who are motivated and committed to supporting the cause might be a good idea. Each member of the team will bring a unique set of skills, will assist in brainstorming ideas, determine the resources you’ll need and ensure tasks and responsibilities are shared.
Promote your event
It's important to promote your event in the community to ensure a good turnout and a successful event. You can get the word out by:
- Thinking about your networks and how best to promote to them.
- Speaking with your employer about how the company may be able to assist and ask to be included in internal newsletters, ask friends and family members to do the same.
- Contacting your local community newspaper or radio community notice board.
