FWLHD Movement Disorder Exercise Physiologist Jordan Byrnes said the symposium will give locals an opportunity to learn more about Parkinson’s symptoms and management, and the services available for support.
“The Parkinson’s Symposium will be an opportunity for people to learn about the disease, and also have a say regarding how to improve current services provided for people living with a movement disorder in the Far West,” Ms Byrnes said.
The Symposium will address key information about Parkinson’s disease, including what to expect as the disease progresses, and the different roles health professionals have in the care of a person with Parkinson’s Disease.
Guest speakers will include a neurologist, exercise physiologist, occupational therapist, dietitian, speech pathologist and pharmacist.
Individuals living with a movement disorder are also welcome to attend.
Please note that all information provided within the symposium will be specific to Parkinson’s Disease.
“At the Symposium, we will seek feedback on a new Movement Disorder Program at the Broken Hill Health Service, and what individuals living with a movement disorder would like the service to look like and how we can make what is currently provided better,” Ms Byrnes said.
The Far West LHD’s Parkinson’s Symposium will be held on Thursday, 22 August 2024 at Thyme on Argent (Broken Hill) from 3pm to 4.30pm. Entry is free.
