Small businesses are not always aware or can face barriers accessing government supports. The Service NSW Business Bureau is the front door to NSW Government services for small business. The Business Bureau provides guidance and support for businesses, including digital options that make it easier to follow government requirements, such as licences.
Small businesses are often short on time or lack the resources to provide feedback to government. We will make it easier for small businesses to engage with us on important policy and regulation that impacts them. This includes making more use of business email subscriptions and our Have Your Say online platform, a user friendly and interactive forum.
Unproductive red tape can be a major barrier to start or grow a business. The NSW Government will strengthen its response to business concerns around red tape and other pain points. As the front door for small business, the Service NSW Business Bureau listens to small businesses, and will work with the regulators across government agencies to address these concerns.
Government contracts can provide important opportunities for small businesses. We will promote NSW Government procurement and help small businesses to understand and build their tender readiness. We will also make it easier for small businesses to bid for NSW Government contracts, by simplifying processes and reducing requirements for the sector.
We will do more to understand how the various NSW Government programs and actions support small business. This will include bringing together data and tracking progress. This will inform consultation with the sector on what is working well or needs to be improved and help the NSW Government change current services or introduce new initiatives.
The Charter for Small Business is an important NSW Government commitment to the small business sector, and we need to demonstrate progress in a way that is meaningful to small business. We will introduce new reporting approaches that show how we are implementing the Charter’s principles.
