The Lizard – The name Narrandera is derived from Narrungdera, the name of the Wiradjuri clan whose country the town now rests upon, meaning 'place of the Eastern Bearded Dragon'.
The Koala – a healthy koala population, inhabits the riverside woodland.

The Tiger Moth Aeroplane – During World War II the No 8 Elementary Flying Training School was established at Narrandera airport.
