The Returning Indigenous Corporation is an Aboriginal organisation operating on Bundjalung Country which offers Cultural camps to communities.
Aboriginal Affairs NSW provided a $20,000 Cultural Grant to support The Returning Indigenous Corporation to hold the event in April 2024.
Steffi Davis from The Returning Indigenous Corporation, based in Mullumbimby, said, “Our camp strengthens and celebrates Aboriginal cultures by providing an opportunity for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to experience and learn cultural activities and knowledge from First Nations artists and facilitators.”
‘Culture Camp’ was attended by more than 80 people, with 48 scholarships given to Aboriginal men, women and children to attend free of charge.
The event included music, weaving, screen printing, dance, meditation and wellbeing workshops run by Aboriginal people.
“The funding provided was able to cover our basic running costs of Culture Camp, including venue hire, equipment hire, catering costs, facilitator fees and produce costs.”,” Davis said.
“This funding alleviated our out-of-pocket expenses so that we were able to offer an increased number of full scholarship positions to Indigenous attendees, resulting in more Mob on Country having access to community healing.”
