Social Housing Management Transfer Program
The Social Housing Management Transfer Program transferred properties from Homes NSW management to community housing providers across NSW.
The Social Housing Management Transfer (SHMT) program increases the number of community housing providers (CHPs) who manage social housing properties. As social housing providers, this means we can:
- deliver better long-term outcomes for tenants and applicants
- make the social housing system stronger and more diverse
- access more sources of funding that are available to community housing providers to better support tenants
- enhance the capacity and size of the community housing sector.
About CHP management
All CHPs managing social housing must be registered with the National Regulatory System for Community Housing (NRSCH). This ensures providers are well-governed, well-managed, and viable, meeting the needs of tenants. Learn more at NRSCH.
For landlords entering or renewing leases with Homes NSW
New or renewed leases with Homes NSW will include this clause:
“Despite anything else in this Lease, the landlord agrees that New South Wales Land and Housing Corporation can assign or transfer this lease without consent to any social housing provider as defined in section 136 of the Residential Tenancies Act 2010.”
You don’t need to do anything now. We will:
• Manage tenancy matters until the transfer.
• Notify you of any changes and guide you through the transition.
