What’s this about?

The Australian and NSW governments are investing $220 million in funding to replace Epping Bridge at Epping, NSW with a new, wider bridge to ease congestion, reduce travel times and improve road safety.

Epping Bridge is 124 years old. The evolution of the project from a bridge widening to a bridge replacement project will provide the community with a safer and more efficient bridge for decades to come.

Epping Bridge is congested in peak periods, with high levels of traffic delay and queuing down Epping Road. The project proposes replacing the existing 5 lane bridge with a new 7 lane bridge to unlock vital road capacity for the 63,000 vehicles that cross the bridge each day.

The project will benefit the community by:

  • Increasing road capacity, improving traffic flow and travel times from the provision of 2 new traffic lanes over the bridge – an additional westbound lane into Beecroft Road and additional right turn lane southbound into Blaxland Road.
  • Improved road safety from the additional traffic lanes, raised central median, bridge safety screens and upgrade of the traffic signals at the intersection of Epping Road, Blaxland Road and Langston Place.
  • Improved connectivity to Epping Town Centre, Epping Station and bus interchange for all modes of transport.
  • Enhanced pedestrian and cyclist safety and mobility from the new shared walking and bike riding path on the southern side of the bridge and upgrades to pedestrian crossings on Epping Road, Bridge Street and High Street.
