Randwick bus and road safety improvement
Transport for NSW is seeking feedback on a proposal to improve bus reliability, reduce congestion and improve safety in Randwick.
What’s this about?
Transport for NSW is proposing changes to bus zones and parking along Belmore Road and Avoca Street, as well as providing a new signalised pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Belmore Road and Perouse Road, Randwick.
This proposal has been developed in consultation with Randwick City Council and bus operators and is being funded by the NSW Government.
The project scope includes:
- extending the length of 2 bus zones to allow multiple buses to pull in without blocking other traffic lanes
- extending the hours of the bus zones to meet weekday peak hour demand and improve traffic movement and bus reliability
- extending timed parking and loading zone times to include weekends to meet local business and customer needs
- installing a new signalised pedestrian crossing to improve accessibility and safety.
Key benefits include:
- improved traffic flow, bus performance and travel times for the high frequency of buses (every 2-3 mins during peak)
- extended bus zones to allow buses to safely pull in and to improve traffic flow through the town centre
- improved safety and access for people walking and getting public transport
- less congestion and improved travel times for all road users during peak periods
- improved accessibility of the bus stop for all bus passengers.
Local businesses and customers will be supported by additional:
- timed parking over the weekends
- loading zones on the weekend mornings.
