About the grant
Grants of up to $500,000 enable the delivery of industry-led projects that enhance pathways to trade qualifications.
Group training organisations (GTOs), local government organisations, trade unions, industry training advisory bodies (ITABs), independent statutory bodies, industry representative bodies and skills service organisations applied for grants.
The projects:
- are being delivered in one of more of Training Services NSW regions
- enhance pathways outside of an apprenticeship or traineeship
- enable participants to attain trade qualifications
- will be delivered over a 12-month period until June 2024.

Apprenticeship Careers Australia | Crane operations Certificate III in Construction Crane Operations | Apprenticeship Careers Australia, the Crane Industry Council of Australia and TAFE NSW are partnering to establish a new pathway to Certificate III Construction Crane Operations. Existing crane operators can attain the qualification via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and stackable micro-credentials. New crane operators will have the opportunity to lift capabilities and make progress in their career. |
Australian Hairdressing Council Project location(s): Sydney, Central Coast, Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, Illawarra, Richmond – Tweed, Southern Highlands and Shoalhaven, Mid North Coast, Central West, New England and North West, Murray | Barbering Certificate III in Barbering | The Australian Hairdressing Council and TAFE NSW are partnering to establish a new pathway to Certificate III Barbering for qualified hairdressers. The pathway will give hairdressers the skills required to excel as barbers. It will also reduce skills shortages in the industry by helping experienced hairdressers return to commercial salons. |
Baking Association of Australia Project location(s): Sydney, New England and North West | Baking Certificate III in Bread Baking | The Baking Association of Australia and TAFE NSW are partnering to recognise skilled but not yet qualified workers in the baking industry. Industry experts will assess the skills of these workers, enabling them to attain Certificate III in Bread Baking or Certificate III in Cake and Pastry. |
Canberra Region Joint Organisation Project location(s): Southern Highlands and Shoalhaven, Capital Region, Wagga Wagga, Hilltops, Upper Lachlan and Snowy Valley | Construction A range of trade qualifications that are relevant to local government | Eleven NSW local government organisations and TAFE NSW are partnering to enable women to build a career in a high demand trade. The project provides mentoring to prospective tradeswomen to help them deal with challenging work environments and complete trade-oriented training. |
Project location(s): Hunter Valley, Mid North Coast, Central West | Dairy Certificate III in Dairy Production Certificate III in Agriculture | Dairy NSW, Dairy Australia and Tocal Agricultural College are partnering to create a new pathway to Certificate III in Dairy Production and Certificate III in Agriculture for workers in dairy farm businesses. Participants will build technical skills in animal welfare, feed base and farm business management. Other project partners include the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Agriculture, Food and Animal Management Industry Training Advisory Body. |
Project location: Sydney | Electrical Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician | The Electrical Trade Union of NSW, Energy Skills Australia and other specialist training organisations are partnering to recognise the skills of NSW citizens and residents who hold electrical qualifications attained overseas. The project will allow these workers to have their qualifications recognised and thereby increase the number of accredited electricians in NSW. |
Project location: Statewide | Hospitality A range of hospitality-related Certificate III qualifications | The Hospitality Training Network and IntoWork Australia are creating a digital platform which offers pathways to Certificate III qualifications for migrants interested in the hospitality and tourism sectors. The platform offers users personalised support which can help them pursue further education or enter the workforce. |
Manufacturing Industry Skills Council Project location(s): Hunter Valley | Welding Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade | Manufacturing Skills Australia, Welding Quality Management Systems and TAFE NSW are partnering to develop maintenance welding units of competency. These units will build the capability of tradespeople making maintenance welding repairs to industrial structures, particularly those who work in the Upper Hunter mining sector. |
MINTRAC (Meat Industry Training & Advisory Council) Project location(s): Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, Hunter Valley | Meat Certificate III in Meat Processing (Retail Butcher) | The Meat Industry Training & Advisory Council, TAFE NSW and Youth Express are establishing a new pathway into the meat industry. The project will respond to the unique skills needs of the Australian meat industry through building workforce capacity and addressing skills shortages. |
Night Time Industries Association Project location(s): Sydney and Mid North Coast | Hospitality A range of hospitality-related Certificate III qualifications | The Night Time Industries Association, Australian Venue Co and TAFE NSW are creating a new pathway to Certificate III hospitality qualifications for experienced workers. The project involves skill development, workforce engagement and building an inclusive culture in the hospitality industry. |
Nursery & Garden Industry Association Project location(s): Statewide | Nursery & Garden Certificate III in Nursery Operations | The Nursery & Garden Industry Association is building an evidence collection tool to help experienced workers attain Certificate III in Nursery Operations via Recognition of Prior Learning and gap training. The digital platform will enable students to upload evidence of skills and training completed. |
