Supervisor support
There are steps you can take if:
- The RTO is not assisting you.
- You are having a problem with the apprentice or trainee.
- There needs to be a change to the Training Plan.
- There are signs of physical and/or verbal abuse.
- You consider the apprentice or trainee to be in danger.
You have the options to:
- Talk to your supervisor or manager and work out what should be done next.
- Refer to your organisational policies and procedures.
- Contact a Training Advisor at your local Training Services centre.
- Talk to your Apprentice Connect Australia Provider (ACAP) for advice and assistance.
Learner support
If the apprentice or trainee is experiencing difficulty there are a number of steps that can be taken to assist:
- You as the supervisor can discuss the problem with the apprentice or trainee and try to rectify it.
- You can discuss the problem with your manager.
- Approach the RTO.
- Contact a Training Advisor at a Training Services centre.
- Talk to your Apprentice Connect Australia Provider (ACAP) for advice and assistance.
There are also scholarships available to assist apprentices in NSW who have demonstrated:
- hardship in their personal circumstances
- capability for vocational education and training that leads to successful completion of their trade training
- a positive attitude and application in workplace and formal training.
Scholarships are open to NSW registered apprentices in both metropolitan and country areas, including school-based apprentices.
Employer support for a learner with a disability
The Disability Australian Apprentice Wage Support (DAAWS) program is a payment that assists employers of eligible Australian Apprentices with disabilities.
Disability Australian Apprentice Wage Support payments are made to employers who:
- employ an eligible Australian apprentice with a disability who finds it difficult to get an approved apprenticeship because of his or her disability.
- currently employ an Australian apprentice who has acquired a disability during his or her apprenticeship and needs help as a result.
Tutorial, interpreter, and mentor services are available to Australian apprentices who have been assessed as eligible for Disability Australian Apprentice Wage Support and need extra help with their off-the-job training.
