Apprenticeship Support Network Information Bulletin
AACIB 061001
Training Services policy and procedures for assessing apprenticeship applications that nominate an interstate Registered Training Organisation (RTO) can be found on Training Services web content under the listing Cross Border Apprenticeship Training – NSW Arrangements .
Apprenticeship applications for cross-border training will be given a status of AAC Pending and allocated to the Home Centre for manual assessment. The relevant AAC Pending codes are:
- 2020 – cross border training
- 2052 – interstate RTO nominated
For both categories of applications AACs are asked to provide, on behalf of the parties, a copy of the TPS and an application setting out reasons why an interstate RTO has been nominated. The TPS is required because it indicates whether the training will be employer funded, or if the parties are applying for Training Services funding for the formal training. Reasons for the request are to be set out on the application form (see link above).
After the supporting documentation has been received by the Home Centre, the application may be allocated to another Centre for assessment, depending on the employer’s training address.
If an application for Training Services funded training by an interstate RTO is approved, a letter confirming these arrangements will be issued by the approving office to the RTO. The parties will be notified of approval in the usual way.
Note that Training Services regional offices may wish to vary these arrangements in some circumstances. Training Services will advise the relevant AACs of local arrangements in these instances.
VTAS
VTAS payments to support apprentices’ travel and accommodation costs are available to apprentices travelling interstate for their formal training where Training Services training delivery by an interstate RTO has been approved. However, apprentices who travel interstate for employer-funded formal training will not receive VTAS support.
