Designing a program for accreditation
As an initial teacher education (ITE) provider, you deliver programs to students that are designed to equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to become a teacher.
Accredited programs provide graduates with a qualification that makes them eligible for Provisional accreditation, allowing them to teach in NSW schools.
You must apply to have your program accredited with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). Program accreditation is for up to 5 years.
Developing and designing an ITE program is a comprehensive process. It requires a considerable amount of time and expertise.
You must contact NESA's ITE team as early as possible about new or amended programs to ensure your submission meets accreditation requirements.
You will work with our ITE team both:
- during an initial discussion about the proposed introduction of a new or amended program
- throughout the development of the program.
Submit all accreditation documentation at least 8 months before you plan to deliver it.
Where possible, you should submit applications for the same type of programs at the same time. For example, a suite of programs.
