1.5 Why does academic integrity matter?
It’s important that you’re honest about what is and isn’t all your own work because this is a big part of having academic integrity.
What is academic integrity?
Having academic integrity means doing the right thing and behaving honestly in every part of your learning. You can show academic integrity by:
- being honest and ethical about what is your own work and what isn't
- acknowledging all your sources and being honest about where you got your information from
- showing what you’ve learned using your own words and skills.
Acknowledging your sources means making it clear that some of the work, words or ideas you’ve used belong to other people. You’ll learn how to do this in Topic 3.
Showing what you’ve learned using your own words and skills isn’t always easy to do, but it’s very important and worth the effort. Remember, you deserve to be recognised for your own work.
