WriteOn competition
WriteOn is an annual writing competition for all NSW primary students in Years 1 to 6.
About the competition
The annual WriteOn competition gives students the opportunity to become published authors and develop skills in writing to express their ideas.
The competition is for students in Years 1 to 6 who are using NSW syllabuses, including students registered for home schooling. Students compose an imaginative text of up to 500 words, using an image as the stimulus.
Each year, winning entries are published in 'The Best of WriteOn' anthology. The 2023 version of the anthology is available for purchase from the NESA Shop.
WriteOn 2024
WriteOn 2024 is now closed. The competition opened on 25 March and closed at 4:00pm on Friday 28 June.
Winning entrants will be notified by mid-Term 3 via their school principal or contact person, then announced here. Information about the competition will continue to be communicated in NESA News.
The stimulus image for 2024, courtesy of the Art Gallery of NSW was ‘The railway station, Redfern’ (1893) by Arthur Streeton.
![The painting depicts a busy Redfern Station on a rainy day in 1893. In the background, two trains are pulled in alongside platforms, steam escaping from their chimneys. Awaiting passengers holding umbrellas have filled each platform. In the foreground, a large, wide gravel street depicts a small number of horse-drawn carriages and people making their way to and from the station. The figure of a man dressed in black, head down, is depicted walking alone towards the viewer.](/sites/default/files/styles/content_x1/public/2024-03/the-railway-station-redfern-writeOn-2024-stimulus-image.png?itok=mT1ZnI-S)
