The Parramatta Light Rail project is attracting plenty of families to the Parramatta CBD over the summer school holidays with an array of child-friendly installations and activities.
Picnic tables, temporary seating, children's play equipment and vibrant displays have brought dozens of residents and visitors to Parramatta's revitalised Church Street precinct between Lennox Bridge and Phillip Street, with many new and interesting places to sit, relax and watch the kids play.
Visitors can watch as vibrant street art is created by artists Patrick Hunter, Pilar Basa, Shannon Smith and Keith Stanley on Church Street, between Philip Street and Lennox Bridge.
'I like creating a bit of calm in my artwork,' says Pilar Basa, whose work includes the Parramatta wattle and carpenter bees. 'I want people to have a peaceful moment to themselves when they see my work.'
Patrick Hunter's vision of a red kangaroo crushing a plastic bottle with a reduce, reuse, recycle message has been designed to inspire.
'I get a lot of engagement from school-aged kids and young people,' he says, 'so I try to include an environmental message in my work because they're the people who in 10- or 15-years' time will be making decisions about the environment.'
Don't miss your chance to enjoy music and face painting this month. The art will remain on display for a limited time only.
The project's Summer in Parramatta campaign will run until the end of January and is part of Transport for NSW's ongoing initiative to support local businesses during light rail construction.
Stay tuned for more exciting events and activities later in the year, as we continue to support local businesses during the delivery of the Parramatta Light Rail.
