Get your photo card reissued
When your photo card expires, you can get a new one issued for 5 or 10 years (if you're over 21).
What you need to do
You can't renew a NSW Photo Card, but when your card expires you can get a new one issued.
To get a new photo card, visit a service centre and take:
- your current or expired plastic photo card
- your completed Photo Card Application
- proof of identity, if you don't have your existing photo card
- payment for the relevant fee.
We send out reminder notices in the mail around 6 weeks before the card expires. You can apply to have your card reissued up to 6 months before its expiry date.
Your new photo card is valid for 5 years from the date of issue, or 10 years from the date of issue if you're older than 21.
Processing time for new cards
We no longer print photo cards at service centres. Photo cards take around 10 days to arrive through the mail. If you haven't received your photo card within 10 days, contact us on 13 22 13. We invalidate and securely destroy expired cards when you hand them in.
Updating your photo
If we have a valid photo of you in our system, we can use this photo for your new card. If you don't want to use this existing photo, a new photograph can also be taken. Check the photo requirements before you visit a service centre.
