What is a NSW Photo Card?
The NSW Photo Card is an easy way to show:
- proof of age
- proof of identity
- proof of address.
Getting a photo card is voluntary and available to any NSW resident over the age of 16. You don't need to hold a driver licence to get a photo card, and you can hold both at the same time.
Do you live in Western Sydney or the Blue Mountains? The digital photo card trial has been expanded to people living within those areas. If you have a photo card, you can get a digital version for free by downloading the Service NSW app.
How to apply
When applying for a NSW Photo Card, you need to visit a service centre to:
- provide proof of identity
- submit your photo card application
- pay the relevant fee.
The photo card shows your name, address, date of birth and photo. It’s valid for 5 years, or 10 years for customers aged 21 years or over. Although the design is different, it’s the same size and has the same security features as a driver licence card.
New card processing time
We no longer print photo cards at service centres. Photo cards take around 15 business days to arrive through the mail. If you haven't received your photo card within 15 business days, contact us on 13 22 13.
Taking your photo
Your photo is taken when you're at a service centre. See what the photo requirements are and when we need to take your photo.
If you already have a valid photo in our system, you can choose to use this photo when applying for a photo card or to have a new photo taken.
