Shared e-bike parking pilot
Poorly parked e-bikes from shared e-bike schemes can impact pedestrian safety and create clutter in public spaces. This 6-month pilot aims to address this by improving the way shared e-bikes are parked at key transport hubs.
About the pilot
Shared e-bikes play an important role in the transport network. They are great for short trips and help people access public transport services. However, poorly parked shared e-bikes can impact pedestrian safety on our streets and around Sydney train and Metro stations.
Transport for NSW has installed dedicated parking bays at selected Sydney train and Metro stations. The parking bays make it easier for riders to identify and park shared e-bikes in appropriate places. It also encourages more riders to use public transport as part of their journey.
In mid-2025, we will review the effectiveness of the trial. It will help us take steps to improve parking of shared devices in the future.
About the parking bays
The parking areas are professionally installed, using high-quality, anti-skid adhesive decals. Shared e-bike operators use geofencing technology as part of the pilot. This means that riders must be within the parking bay to end a trip on a shared e-bike.
Councils wanting to install parking bays on council assets can also use the decal artwork.
