Background
Artists and music industry professionals with a passion for the NSW contemporary music industry are encouraged to submit an expression of interest to join the Sound NSW Advisory Board.
This is an exciting opportunity to help lead music development and make a significant impact to artists, businesses, audiences and music communities across NSW.
What we do
The Sound NSW Advisory Board provides advice to assist the NSW Government in the development of policies and initiatives to enhance the contemporary music sector in the state.
The Board does this by:
- identifying issues and opportunities affecting the contemporary music sector in NSW and propose strategies to address gaps and enhance support
- providing advice to NSW government on contemporary music related priorities, projects and proposals
- supporting the development and implementation of a 10-year contemporary music strategy
- providing advice to NSW Government on matters relating to the intersection between contemporary music sector and the broader creative industries.
Commitment
Board members will need to commit to a minimum of four Board meetings per year, with all members encouraged to attend in person. Members may occasionally be asked to attend special meetings, or provide out-of-session advice.
Remuneration
Board member participation is in line with the NSW Government Boards and Committees Classification and Remuneration Framework remuneration for Group C, Level 2i boards.
Members will be paid their annual fee on a pro-rata quarterly basis.
Criteria and Desirable Skills and Experience
To ensure the Board has an appropriate expertise and experience to provide advice, applicants will be assessed against the following criteria.
- Understanding of the contemporary music sector and/or the regulatory environment within which the music sector operates.
- Communications skills and the ability to represent a range of industry views.
- Willingness to engage in constructive discussion with other Sound NSW Advisory Board members and government.
In addition to the criteria, people with specific skills and experience are encouraged to apply, including:
- professional musicians and/or producers
- experience in a NSW not-for-profit contemporary music organisation
- experience in, or knowledge of, contemporary music artist management
- experience in, or knowledge of, contemporary music artist management
- experience in, or knowledge of, live music venue operation/management
- experience in, or knowledge of, First Nations culture.
The NSW Government is committed to ensuring appropriate representation of women, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability and young people on Government Boards and Committees.
Eligibility
To be eligible to be appointed to a Board, individuals must be:
- an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident
- a NSW resident or predominantly working in NSW
- aged 18 or over.
Individuals who have not satisfactorily acquitted any prior Create NSW funding will be ineligible for consideration, unless written approval has been received from Create NSW. This approval will only be provided on the condition that all outstanding acquittals are submitted to Create NSW prior to appointment.
All Board members must undertake a NSW Government probity check which includes Confirmation of Identity, National Police History, bankruptcy and directorships check before their appointment is confirmed.
