Emergency nurses are highly skilled clinical staff. One of these highly skilled Emergency Department (ED) staff members is Nurse Practitioner Tim Keun, at Queanbeyan Hospital.
Nurse Practitioners are expert nurses able to diagnose and treat people with a variety of acute or chronic health conditions.
As an experienced ED Registered Nurse, Tim completed a Masters of Nurse Practitioner last year and has started the next phase of his career as the first Emergency Nurse Practitioner at the Queanbeyan Hospital Emergency Department.
“I have a passion for nursing and love to see the wonderful contribution that nurses can make in the delivery of healthcare, especially in the Emergency setting. Mentoring nurses through their career and into roles that ultimately provide a high-quality healthcare experience for the local community is something that gives me great joy,” Tim said.
Minister for Regional Health Bronnie Taylor, a registered nurse with more than 20 years’ experience before entering parliament, said emergency nurses have a key role at the front line of our health system and especially so in regional and rural hospitals.
“Emergency department nurses save lives every day. They treat patients with severe injury, trauma, or acute-onset symptoms,” Mrs Taylor said.
“Many patients in the emergency department experience life-threatening situations. Emergency nurses must be able to think and act quickly, to identify the patient’s problem and begin stabilising them.”
Member for Monaro Nichole Overall said Emergency Nurses Day is a chance to recognise our amazing health staff and thank each and every of them for their continued dedication to the community.
“As the first Emergency Nurse Practitioner at Queanbeyan Hospital, Tim is a very welcome addition to the Emergency Department and our community,” Mrs Overall said.
