About us
We offer modern, patient-centred healthcare to the growing community of Maitland and the Hunter region. Our hospital provides a wide range of services, including emergency care, maternity, surgical, and specialised treatments, all focused on delivering high-quality care in a supportive and welcoming environment.
By car
- From Newcastle: Take the A43 (New England Highway) towards Maitland. Turn right onto Chelmsford Drive, then left onto Metford Road. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit to enter the hospital.
- From Rutherford: Take the A43 towards Newcastle. Turn left onto Chelmsford Drive, then left onto Metford Road. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit to enter the hospital.
Public transport
- Train: The nearest station is Victoria Street on the Hunter Line.
- Bus: The bus stop is near the main entrance, about a 2-minute walk.
- Taxi: Drop-off points are located at the Emergency entrance, main entrance, and Outpatient Clinics.
- Community transport: Visit Transport NSW for options.
Parking
- P1 short stay (Emergency access): Free for 2 hours. For longer stays, speak to staff at the main entrance or emergency.
- P3 visitor and staff (all-day parking): Accessible parking available.
- P5 staff and fleet: Permit holders only.
- Concession parking: Available for pension, health care, and disability cardholders.
- Motorbike parking: Available in P1 and P3.
- Bicycle parking: Available in P1.
- Pay and display: $4 per day.
- Overflow parking: Use surrounding streets (check signs for restrictions).
Main entrance
The main entry for visitors is 50 metres from P1 carpark and 150 metres from P3.
Information desk
Located at the main entrance, staffed Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and weekends 8am to 4pm.
Directory board and volunteers
Find directions on the board at the main entrance or ask volunteers for help.
Self-check-in kiosks
For outpatient appointments, located in the ground floor outpatient area.
- From main entrance: Go straight, then left at the lifts.
Hearing loops
Available at reception for hearing aid users (t-coil setting).
ATM
Located past the Information Desk.
Emergency Department
Use the emergency entrance (no access from the main entrance).
Outpatient clinics
Located on the Ground Floor. From the Main Entrance, go straight, then left at the lifts.
Maternity services
- Birthing Unit: Enter main entrance, go to Level 1 via the lifts on your right.
- Outpatient and wards: Clinics are on the ground floor. Wards on Level 4, Ward 4A.
Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
Located on Level 1, accessible via the lifts from the main entrance.
Admissions
Ground Floor, near the lifts.
Paediatric hospital in the home and GP after hours
Located in the Ground Floor Outpatient area.
Pharmacy
Lower Ground Floor, accessible via the lifts.
Amenities and parents room
Available on all floors and in the Emergency Department. Ground floor facilities are opposite the information desk.
Multi-faith room
Located on the Ground Floor at the end of the main corridor.
Seating and waiting areas
Seating available at entrances, outpatient areas, and the public courtyard. Waiting areas near all wards.
Visiting hours
Maitland Hospital operates 24 hours, 7 days.
- Business hours: Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm.
- Visiting hours: 8am to 8pm, with a rest period from 1pm to 3pm.
During rest periods, staff will return patients to their beds and quieten the ward. Visitors should leave or remain quiet to allow patients to rest.
Wards
Wards are on Levels 1, 3, and 4. The information desk at the main entrance can help locate patients.
Patients may move wards, so it’s good to check.
To access wards, enter through the main entrance, go straight ahead to the lifts on the right, and use the lifts to reach the wards. Check in at the staff station when you arrive.
- Level 1: Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Close Observation Unit, Special Care Unit, Operating Theatres, Day Procedure Unit.
- Level 3: Wards 3A, 3B, Mental Health Unit.
- Level 4: Wards 4A (Maternity), Ward 4B (children and adolescents), Ward 4C, Ward 4D.
Smoke-free policy
Maitland Hospital is a smoke-free zone. Smoking is not allowed within the hospital or on its grounds.
Wheelchairs and mobility aids
Ask for assistance with wheelchairs or mobility aids at the information desk or from ward staff.
Amenities and parents room
- Ground floor: Accessible toilets, changing rooms, and a parents room are near the main entrance. Additional toilets are next to the multi-faith room and in the outpatients clinic area.
- Level 1 to 4: Accessible toilets available on all levels, with additional facilities on some levels.
- Emergency Department: Includes accessible toilets and a parents room.
Seating and waiting areas
Seating is available at all entrances, outpatient areas, the public courtyard, and under covered walkways.
Waiting areas are near all clinics and wards on Levels 1, 3, 4, and 5.
